We are now taking reservations for the Cyber-Seniors Senior Volunteer Training Program!
What is Cyber-Seniors?
Cyber-Seniors is a non-profit organization that connects tech savvy youth to older adults wishing to learn how to use technology. Since its inception in 2015, Cyber-Seniors has developed thousands of resources that provide tech-training for senior citizens using an intergenerational, youth volunteer model. Youth are provided with lessons and learning activities to train them to act as digital mentors and senior citizens gain access to effective technology training and intergenerational communities that keep them socially connected and engaged.
What is the Cyber-Seniors Senior Volunteer Training Program?
The Senior Volunteer Training Program was created to assist volunteers like yourself in moving their volunteer activities to an online format. This program provides 5 hours of focused training, followed by a minimum of 4 hours of practice, and unlimited ongoing support and coaching as needed. The program is delivered by Cyber-Seniors’ experienced technology instructors with practice sessions and ongoing support supplemented by Cyber-Seniors trained volunteer mentors. We deliver this program on a secure online portal, where you will be able to access all lessons and workshops indefinitely, so you can stay up-to-date on your technology skills.
What will you gain from this program?
Upon completing this program, you will be fully trained to volunteer virtually. Further, you will walk away with new technology skills and improved confidence in using digital resources. When you become involved with Cyber-Seniors, you have unlimited access to all lessons, workshops, and seminars, which will allow you to keep building upon your growing tech knowledge. Finally, you will have created connections with our youth mentors and other seniors, gaining access to a meaningful intergenerational community full of support and enthusiasm. One participant summarized her experience, saying,
“Our Cyber-Seniors trainer was very patient and understanding. Though distance learning is difficult, she helped bridge the gap.”
How do you become part of the Senior Volunteer Training Program?
The cost is $50 per participant, but RSVP of Spokane County will cover the cost for the first 40 volunteers who register. We ask that after completing the training program, all participants commit to serving at least one hour of service in an approved virtual volunteering assignment within three months of completion. The purpose of this program is to train volunteers to serve remotely using technology.
To register for the Cyber-Seniors Volunteer Training Program, please email rsvp@ymcainw.org. with the subject line "Cyber-Seniors Training," or call (509) 344-7787. Include your full name, email address, and phone number. You must be actively enrolled as an RSVP member in order to take advantage of this opportunity.
At this time, we anticipate that this will be a one-time opportunity, made possible thanks to surplus funds as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. There is no guarantee this opportunity will come again, so act now if you want to be a part of this unique training experience!
We will update this post once we have at least 20 participants to announce when the training program will be scheduled to begin. Once we reach 40 participants, we will update this post one last time to announce that registration is closed.
